Bridged Center Channel
(A fun experiment)
This is what got me going on the path to true hi-fi. I used to have a fairly large spacing between my left & right speakers. This was back in my high school / college days. I didn't know what
imaging or soundstage was. I don't even think I paid any attention to them when the salesperson was talking me into my first BIG speaker buy. (For those of you who need to know: imaging is just that, an image of the performers in front of you. Soundstaging is how wide and deep the soundfield of those images are portrayed.) Since my spacing was so wide, of course I didn't have a solid center image. I had the hole-in-the-middle syndrome. Then I came across an article by Paul Klipsch. It was a way to help my problem. Build a bridged center channel into my system. According to the article, this was going to give me a solid center image with a nice wide soundstage. OK. I was to build this simple circuit, add an amplifier and another speaker (to place in the center of my left/right speakers), and the problem solved! OK Again. You know what? It worked! It was awesome! I was the only person in town doing this. I had Pete Towshend singing in front of me. The guitars were to his left and right. The drummer was behind him. The band was there!

Of course these days, we can do the same thing with good equipment, proper set-up, and only two speakers. I still can't help wondering what it would be like to do this again with modern equipment. Maybe I'll try it soon. Better yet, why don't you? Let me know how it works!!!
Here's how to do this:
Remember, for best results, the center amp / speaker should be sonically the same as the left / right amp(s) speakers. What the hell, just use what you got laying around, beg, borrow, etc. I didn't bother mounting mine in a box. I just hard wired it together & shrunk wrap the resistors/cable.
I hope this makes sense:
